Our Candle Care Guide

At Elpis, we believe that candles are more than just sources of light — they're mood setters, aromatherapy tools, and sometimes even tiny works of art. Let's dive into how to get the most out of your candles while keeping your space safe and serene.

The First Burn

Setting the Stage

- Before each lighting, trim the wick to about 6mm.

- Light your candle and let it burn until the entire top layer of wax melts into a pool. This usually takes about 2-3 hours.

- Why? This prevents "tunneling" (when only the center melts) and ensures your candle burns evenly in future uses.

- Trim that wick! It's the key to a smoke-free, longer-lasting candle

- Use wick trimmers for a clean cut, or carefully use scissors if you don't have trimmers.

Location Matters

Burn Smart, Burn Safe

- Choose a stable, heat-resistant surface.

- Keep candles away from drafts, vents, and flammable objects.

- Space multiple candles at least 10cm apart

- Limit burning sessions to 3-4 hours at a time.

- Never place candles near windows or where children and pets can reach them.

- Always extinguish your candle before leaving the room or going to sleep.

- Use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish the flame, it's safer and prevents wax splatter.

A little care goes a long way

Show Your Candle Some TLC

- Keep the wax pool clean

- Store candles in a cool, dry place

- Cover scented candles when not in use

- Stop using your candle when there's about 1/2 inch of wax left at the bottom.

- But don't toss that container! It is reusable :)
